Jacqueline Metcalf (Jax) Visas, media and sponsorship co-ordanation
I was born in Bonny Scotland and have lived there all my life. My parents live in Perthshire where they live the retired life of antique hunting, lunching, playing bridge and campaigning for the Conservatives!
I was at St Leonards in St Andrews, where I used to be mega sporty and was in the school athletics, cross-country, hockey, lacrosse, trampolining and gymnastic teams - goodness knows what's happened these days. I also did lots of acting, singing and dancing, spending lots of time on the stage in musicals. I was Maria in the Sound of Music when I was 12 and Oliver in Oliver when I was 13 (it was an all girls school). I managed to make it as far as becoming Head of House and Captain of Games only to get myself kicked out for sneaking out to party! Anyway, 3 reasonable A levels later I found myself at Aberdeen Uni reading Economics and Management. Four fantastic years of rather more tequila slamming and cider swilling than was altogether healthy, gained me a mystifying 2:1. I then went backpacking around Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam for 8 months which I enjoyed immensely, amazing my friends, and indeed myself, by somehow managing to cope without my make-up and considerable shoe collection. When I returned, I began temping in investment with a view to a tumultuous career earning wads of cash as an Investment Manager or such like. Alas 'twas not to be and on the evening of my 25th Birthday Noel, in a stupour, waxed lyrical of Overlanding all the way to Sydney. Once I had been convinced that he was not indeed clinically insane, I decided in my stupour (of happiness and enlightenment you understand) that perhaps it wouldn't be that bad an idea after all. So here I am, having this very morning, just turned down a £20,000 a year job, raring to go and explore the land 'twixt here and Sydney. Why? The answer is that I want to see everything there is to see and do everything there is to do (with only a few obvious exceptions of course) and I think this epic adventure covers quite a sizeable chunk of possibilities. If I missed this incredible opportunity, I would never forgive myself. I hope to travel the entire world and I also hope that I win the lottery so that I can pay for it! |
