Microlight
We are using a Pegasus Quantum 912, flexwing microlight, capable of carrying 2 crew for over 400 miles. Weighing just 200 kilos it cruises at 60 mph and is capable of altitudes in excess of 16,000ft, a necessity in the Himalayas. It is equipped with a Rotax 1200cc engine producing 80hp. An electronic engine monitoring system keeps a careful eye on the systems. Apart from the normal flying instruments it will be equipped with a global positioning system (GPS) to help with navigation over, at times, uncharted territories. Many aviation maps have been kindly provided by Pooleys. All members of the team will spend many hours over the 6 months flying high above the Land Rovers provided the weather holds, which will be checked through The Weather Page.

More information on Microlights can be found from the British Microlight Aircraft Association.
